The shopping list automatically combines and categorizes ingredients from your recipes that are on your meal plan based on a range of dates.

Updating the date range

The date defaults to the current week (next 7 days). To change this date range, click on on either of the dates located at top top of the shopping list page. The days on the weekly planner at the bottom of the page that are not included in this range of days will look disabled or grey in color.

Adding new items

You can add any items the the shopping list, even if they are not on your meal plan. Just type the item name in the Add More Items text box, select the category, and then hit return on your keyboard. When you hit return the selection will refocus on the text box again so you can quickly add many ingredients without removing your hands from the keyboard.

Editing items

Ingredients on your shopping list are categorized by the grocery store categories that you selected when adding the recipes. You can also update the ingredients titles and categories by clicking on the edit button next to each ingredient. Any changes will automatically update the associated recipes. You can un-check this option and the changes will only update the current ingredient on your shopping list. One common use of this feature is to add categories to un-categorized ingredients in multiple recipes.

Adding Notes

You can also add notes to each item on your shopping list for things like the Brand you prefer with possible substitutions, or if you have a coupon for this item. Notes are visible below each item on your shopping list page and when printed.

Removing the items you don't need

To temporarily move shopping list items off your main list to your Pantry Inventory, check each item and then click the Don't Need button or drag them to your Pantry Inventory located on the right side. To move Pantry Inventory items back to your main list, select the items and then click the Need button.

To permanently remove items from your list, select them and then click the Delete button at the top of your Pantry Inventory. Note:* If you delete all of the ingredients from a planned recipe, the recipe will still remain on the meal planner. You can add the deleted ingredients back to your list by deleting and adding the associated recipe back to your meal plan.

Stores

Shopping list stores allow you to group your shopping list items in your favorite grocery stores or categories.

The top tab, All Stores, shows all items in all stores. The store, Any Store, is where your items live when they are not in a specific store. You can use this list to look at specific stores, or drag items to it from from your shopping list. The numbers next to each store name indicate how many items you currently have in the store.

Check out the Stores Knowledge Base for more information...

Grouping/Combining Items

Ingredients are automatically combined if they have the exact same ingredient name and grocery category. To group shopping list items together with different names or categories, click the 'edit' button next to one of the items and change the name and/or category to match the other item. If you allow the changes to update any of the associated recipes, then this grouping will automatically apply the next time you add the associated recipes to your meal plan/shopping list.

Sharing your shopping list

Click the Share List button to bring up a simple text format of you shopping list. You can copy and paste this simple formated list to send in an email. This is also a way to view your shopping list on your phone even without internet access.

Printing your shopping list

Click the Print List button to print your shopping list. The recipes included in your shopping list are visible at the bottom. The letters next to these recipes are also next to the associated ingredients in the list. This should help with substitutions at the grocery store.

The Weekly Meal Planner

The Weekly Meal Planner is available at the bottom of your shopping list page. You can change the planned item's serving sizes, move them around, and delete them. Your shopping list will automatically update based on your changes to the meal plan. The weekly planner will gray-out the days not included in the date range for the shopping list.
